From the Spratling era Matilde Poulat's work is one of my very favorite. Her style was Mexico City folk and she took that style and worked creative magic . This one holds one of the earliest hallmarks and shows her early work with a clear faceted gem. It has the back of the silver cut out for light which later on she did not continue that process. The drop across is 5 in. and the height is 2.5in. The clasp is jeweled and the wearable length is 17.5in. This is a heavy weight of 70 grams. The stones are warmed with age and a lovely patina. I love the smaller size of this Matl because you can wear it with anything and to everything. One of the ways that I look for the best examples of Matl is to look at the birds. These are plump little baby birds with a perfect loveable shape. Also, the carving on the top of the birds is wonderfully executed. The oldest Matl designs are harder to get today and this one is a real treasure of collector quality, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!
