This is a very rare Antonio Pineda properly hallmarked locket ring that depicts a Japanese scene. The scrimshaw miniature is well done and is quite clear with handmade beading framing the carving and then another ring of a twisted border. The ring is heavy at 18 grams and is approximately a size 8. The ring is capable of being sized because the hallmark is well marked on the back of the ring and not on the band. This rare treasure is 1.25 inches tall and 1 inch wide and It may be signed in Japanese characters on the back of the miniature. Some designers of the Spratling era were discovering and designing with Japan as their inspiration such as Margot Van Voorhies Carr. A lovely piece of art and treasure.
