Old Matl Matilde Poulat Mexican Silver Moth Necklace

Administration: Nodes (Content)

This signed Matl bares the oldest hallmark for 1934 when the shop first opened. Matilde Poulat took the folkloric design and made jewels that are extremely sought after even today. The moth design shown here is open backed repousse. It is rare to find these and to be in this great of a condition. You can see the underside is dark with patina and probably untouched for a large part of it's 80 year old life. The stone has no chips or cracks and the silver is without dents or breaks. The length is approximately 17in. The drop is 2 inches tall with the chain going around being 7/8th inch tall. The presence this necklace has will go with anything anywhere. The links are rounded beautifully and it lays exactly the way you want a necklace to lay. The open backed repousse is 71 grams. I have had a few of these Matls this size and age and each one came with a spring ring. The rings that are soldered to the necklace for the clasp to secure it to are very, very small and really do not accommodate another type of closure. The lead off rings to the clasp are the banded rings that Matl used on most everything she made. These are small as well. I believe this is the true and correct closure. For all collectors this one is rare, just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE
